FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness, in coordination with FEMA’s Office of Law Enforcement and Integration, in early February unveiled three virtual instructor-led training offerings focused on public order policing.

The programs – ‘Survey of Community Policing,’ ‘Social Media Strategies for Law Enforcement,’ and ‘The Right to Protest and Law Enforcement Response’ – are aimed at law enforcement and security personnel with a responsibility to address civil disturbances and maintain public order.

Each program is approximately one to one-and-a-half hours in length and requires no prerequisite training.

The offerings are among six public order policing programs the center is looking to add to its training library in 2021.

Additional programs the CDP is planning to offer are ‘Law Enforcement Response to Protest Movements,’ ‘Deployment of Mobile Field Force for Mass Demonstrations,’ and ‘Understanding Crowd Dynamics for Mitigation and De-escalation.’
