A team from the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) toured FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness May 13, focusing on its Chemical, Ordnance, Biological and Radiological Training Facility (COBRATF).

The visit provided the CDP with design ideas to enhance the existing and new training venues at the COBRATF.

The COBRATF training environment includes seven individual training bays and a mock city used to instruct state, local, tribal, territorial and federal emergency responders to respond to incidents involving chemical, biological and radiological materials.

It is the nation’s only emergency responder training facility engineered to allow the use of nerve agents GB (Sarin) and VX. The CDP also uses biological materials Ricin (A Chain) and Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis delta Sterne) in training.

DEVCOM recently re-designed the U.S. military’s chemical, biological and nuclear detection and response training facilities in Missouri.
