FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness recently completed a revision of its Hazardous Materials Technician (HMT) Course.
The revision includes information about two skills not previously included in the curriculum – liquid product transfer and overpacking drums.
With the update, the course is consistent with the latest version of the National Fire Protection Association’s Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1072. Bringing the course into alignment with NFPA 1072 provides responders a more detailed understanding of how to respond to various hazardous material incidents.
The updated version of HMT is expected to be implemented starting later this month.
