FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness on Thursday wrapped up a near week-long training event involving more than 250 responders in Baldwin County, Alabama – a mostly rural, hurricane-prone area.
The event consisted of three days of virtual instructor-led training on a wide range of topics, including hazardous materials, healthcare, and public information. This was followed by a four-hour exercise, also conducted virtually, which tested the response capabilities of representatives from various agencies in the county who work in its emergency operations center during a disaster.
The exercise included local elected officials, local media, members of the National Guard, members of several volunteer organizations and others. Participants had the opportunity to gain valuable experience working together as a unit in response to multiple emergency scenarios.
Said one of the training and exercise participants: “I know a lot more today that will help me when this (a disaster) happens here.”
