The Center for Domestic Preparedness is developing a 1.5- to 2-hour Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) program for healthcare facility patient evacuation in the event of a disaster or emergency.
The VILT is currently anticipated to be available in early calendar year 2022.
Given lessons learned from hospitals and healthcare facilities which have had to conduct patient evacuation, the CDP recognizes the critical need for high-fidelity training in this extremely complex area, explained Roy Marlow, a senior member of the CDP’s curriculum development team.
Feedback received from VILT attendees will be used to determine if there is a need for development of a multi-day, resident course.
Such an offering would take two to three years to develop, said Marlow, and would be delivered at the CDP’s Noble Training Facility – the hospital facility in the United States dedicated solely to training healthcare professionals in disaster preparedness and response.
