FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) is currently assisting with the training of 75 National Guardsmen from three states.
This week, 25 members of the Vermont Air National Guard and 12 soldiers from the Maryland Army National Guard will complete two weeks of training on the CDP campus and 38 guardsmen from New Mexico will conclude a week of instruction.
The Vermont guardsmen’s training has been focused on law enforcement, with courses on bombing prevention, public order policing and responses to incidents involving hazardous materials.
Training for the soldiers from New Mexico and Maryland has been focused on healthcare, with courses detailing precautions for infectious diseases, healthcare emergency management and mass casualty response.
CDP training, based on real-world scenarios, enables the participants to gain confidence in their equipment and teams, as well as how to respond effectively to a wide range of incidents.
In a typical year, more than 1,000 National Guardsmen attend CDP training. This includes guardsmen in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
