Formally known as the Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings (IRTB) course series, the Response to Bombings Incidents, or RBI, course series developed by New Mexico Tech is expected to release July 10.
The redesigned course will focus on updated content covering both criminal and terrorist bombings. Data indicates a shift from religious terrorism to political terrorism over the last several years. Since courses must go through the recertification process every three years, EMRTC used the opportunity to revise and expand the course’s original scope.
Course options include multiple delivery methods. The residential course is a 3-day course delivered at New Mexico Tech’s training facilities. The Train-the-Trainer course is also a 3-day course delivered at New Mexico Tech’s training facilities. Qualified participants who attend the Train-the-Trainer course version and successfully complete all program requirements are certified to teach the Mobile/Awareness version of the course within their home jurisdiction. The Mobile/Awareness course is a 1-day course delivered at no cost across all US states and territories by New Mexico Tech instructors at the request of first responder agencies and organizations. The Conference option is a single-day format delivered at no cost across all US states and territories by New Mexico Tech instructors at the request of first responder agencies and organizations.
New Mexico Tech is modifying the requirements for the Train-the-Trainer program to benefit the integrity of the program and facilitate coordination with certified instructors. A key change is that participants seeking instructor certification will need to score 90% or higher on the course post-test. Participants seeking instructor certification will need to complete the Instructor Standards Expectations and Excellence online course. This short course provides participants with a brief overview of the NMT/FEMA relationship, adult learning theory, and procedure for scheduling and downloading course materials to conduct a course delivery.
