When players and fans of the two Super Bowl teams converged on Miami this past weekend, they had the Center for Domestic Preparedness among those to thank for ensuring they were safe during their time in the city.

That’s because the CDP provided training to more than 5,200 responders from across Florida the past two years, many in direct preparation for the event that drew more than one million visitors to the city. The training was conducted both on the CDP campus in Anniston, AL, and at sites across the Sunshine State, and involved responders from a range a disciplines, from law enforcement officers and medical specialists to emergency managers.

That is nothing new for the CDP.

The CDP routinely supports states and local jurisdictions as they prepare to host National Special Security Events such as the Super Bowl, Democratic and Republican National Conventions and presidential inaugurations. National Special Security Events draw large crowds and television audiences and are considered by the Department of Homeland Security to be potential targets for terrorism or other criminal activity.

In fact, the CDP is already working with Florida and the City of Tampa as they prepare to host the next Big Game. It is also working with Alabama and the City of Birmingham as they prepare to host the World Games in 2021.
