FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) recently launched its Public Order and Public Safety – Executive (POPS-E) Course.
The eight-hour offering teaches law enforcement supervisors and upper-level managers about the legal rights of protesters, basic crowd management and de-escalation tactics.
The course is delivered primarily in the CDP’s Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) format, which is currently reserved for cohorts, or groups of organizations within the same community, county or state who work together in emergencies.
The National Institute of Justice’s Special Technical Committee and FEMA’s Office of Law Enforcement and Integration assisted in the development of the training.
